Ever since its inception in the 1950s, the County Arts Commission of Los Angeles County has put together the Holiday Celebration. A stunning performance concert held annually on Christmas Eve, December 24th, the show promotes the work of local artists in dance, music and theatre. A beloved tradition in the community, it unites people from all walks of life to celebrate the holiday season and spread cheer and goodwill. The event is held by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, taking place in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at The Music Center from 3pm – 6pm. Those who will be staying at one of the Los Angeles hotels in Hollywood during Christmas should check out this fun event.
This year is the 53rd annual event. Since it began in 1959, the Annual Holiday Celebration has seen performances of every kind imaginable. This year’s line up includes 24 groups and a grand total of almost eight hundred people taking part from all sections of the community – representing everything that is good about Los Angeles life and culture. A staggering selection of musicians, dance companies and choirs will be brought together on stage to make this Christmas Eve an especially merry one. The performers all come from the neighborhood, showcasing the diversity of talent to be found in the community and the incredible range of styles which are on offer. Los Angeles is known for its range of cultures and the ‘mixing’ of people from every imaginable background, and this is truly seen in its range of performance arts.
The show is not only offering free entry to see it live at The Music Center, but for those who are unable to attend in person there are a number of options. KCET-TV will be showing the whole event on television, both live at 3pm and then repeated later at 8pm. On Christmas Day there will also be repeats on television, at noon, 3pm and 9pm. For those who prefer to listen to the radio there will be a live feed from the show, broadcast on KPFK 90.7fm.
