This is a weekend to celebrate in Hollywood! Our very own St. Sophia’s Cathedral will be the site of the #1 Southern California Greek Festival all weekend. Come out for music, dancing, delicious food and culture. Guests will have the chance to tour the beautiful St. Sophia’s Cathedral during the festival with audio presentations on the hour.
The Greek Fest starts on Friday, September 7 at 5pm. The first night is Zorba Night with “Happy Hour” free admission! Live music will play all night to inspire you during the Zorba Dance Contest. To watch a video of past Zorba Nights, click here.
On Saturday, the festivities will start again at 1pm. Greek music will play so that you can dance the night away! There will also be Greek cooking demonstrations and Saint Sophia dancers. If you don’t know the steps never fear, at 5:15pm, join the Greek Dance Workshop to learn some moves! After, don’t miss the theatrical performance of “Conversations with the Ancients” and “Charanga Latina,” the salsa show. The festival’s headliner is a special concert show from Thanos Petrelis at 8pm.
On Sunday, the fun starts all over again with a grand prize drawing at the end of the night at 8:45pm. The grand prize is a $2000 dream vacation package, with smaller prizes including an Apple iPad, flatscreen color TV and much more. The festival officially closes at 10pm. You can sample Greek dishes all weekend, including gyros, moussaka, spanikopita, baklava and more.
Some of the forms of dance you can expect to see at the Greek Fest include Hasapiko, Pentozali, Kalamatianos, Tsamiko and Zeibekiko. Tickets cost $3 with one entry into the raffle per ticket.
