The one thing that Los Angeles and their Hollywood natives cannot be without is their cars. No matter where you’re at or how far a destination is we must drive and it seems like everyone must drive alone. Over on Wilshire boulevard there is a great nonprofit organization called the Petersen Automotive Museum. The Petersen automotive museum is a great place to visit anytime but right now they are showcasing several exciting and cool car events that you will want to check out.
To give you a brief overview the museum has four floors covering more than 300,000 sq feet and exhibits over 150 rare and classic cars. They have rare motorcycles, race cars, concept and celebrity cars there. There is also the May Family Discovery Center where you can take a scientific and “hands on” approach to learning about the fundamentals of cars. In case you want to relax and grab a bite to eat there is the founders lounge and kitchen on the fourth floor.

They collected dozens of cars on behalf of the Petersen Automotive Museum and have some of the most diverse samplings of vehicles for show. There are hot rods, presidential limousines, classics and vintage exotics as well as dramatic and unusual cars. You will have the privilege of seeing cars by Henry Ford II, Rita Hayworth, and Elvis Presley as well cars used by President Eisenhower, Roosevelt and Truman.
NHRA Sixty Years of Thunder
With the birth of cars came the inevitable desire to make cars that are fun and entertaining to drive. These modified and “souped” up cars received attention from Robert Petersen’s Hot Rod magazine but took some time to really come into their own. In time the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) was formed and so did the birth of a sport. It became an event for enthusiast to see exciting races and solidify the hot rod culture. Now in its 60th year the exhibit explores the history of the National Hot rod Association through photographs, video, interactive displays and of course race cars. Come down and see dragsters, funny cars, altered and lots more.
As you can see there is a lot of interesting and exciting auto exhibits going on. The great part is they are less than 15 minutes away from the Hollywood Hotel. So all you car nuts and automotive enthusiast come down for the weekend and check out the exhibits before they are gone!
